Actress Smilie Suri in TV show Jodha Akbar as Ruqaiya Begum

Actress Smilie Suri, who is all set to make her small screen debut with Jodha Akbar, says her character as the Mughal emperor's first wife Ruqaiya Begum will help her break the girl-next-door image. Smilie, who made her Bollywood debut with 2005 film Kalyug, fell ill soon after signing Zee TV's historical show Jodha Akbar, produced by Ekta Kapoor.



"Over the last few years, I was offered TV shows, but I declined them. This one's not a saas-bahu show and the role of Ruqaiya is also very different. It helps me break away from the girl-next-door image created by my Kalyug character," Smilie, who is director Mohit Suri's sister, said in a statement. "The commute from Mumbai to Karjat for the shoot can be pretty taxing, so I was in two minds initially, but the character is not only interesting, it has different layers and substance. Ruqaiya is an important part of Akbar's life. She was his best friend, almost like his mirror. I'm just waiting to get out of the hospital and start shooting," she added.

Rashmi Desai, better known as Tapasya from Colors' popular daily soap Uttaran, is reportedly planning to quit the show yet again. At least her recent Twitter update suggests so. "Overwhelming response from you all on how much you want to see me in a new TV show. Yours prayers and requests to the channel will work!", read one of her recent tweets. Going by this, it seems like Rashmi aims to look beyond Uttaran now.

On being asked whether she is looking forward to something new, Rashmi clearly stated, "Every actor wants to move on and if I get something interesting, I will take it up. My fans also want to see me in some new avatar". However, at the same time she also asserted that, "For the moment I am very happy being a part of the above four-year hit show".

Rashmi was then probed on whether she is ready to leave Uttaran to don a new avatar to which she replied, "Maybe the channel will allow me to do the same. I don't know for I have not yet spoken to them about the same".

Rashmi has been absent from the serial's current track however, she would soon be returning. Giving the reason for her absence she mentioned, "I took a sabbatical because my hubby (Nandish) was unwell and there were other personal reasons. I must thank the creative team for giving me this chance to take a necessary break". The actress, who is eagerly awaiting a good opportunity, also shared that she wishes to try hands at some youth based show and is also open for films.

Ekta Kaul Is eliminated from the reality tv show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6

The eviction day is here again! The sixth season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, produced by BBC is becoming more tough and entertaining with each passing day.



With three evictions till now, tonights episode will again see another eviction of a celebrity contestant.

"This time, beautiful Ekta Kaul is the one who missed the train and got out of the competition. Bottom three comprised of Ekta Kaul, Siddharth Shukla and Aarti Chabbaria," Said source.

Soon with evictions happening, the competition will see a fight for a wild card entry, where few celebrities namely, Rohit Roy, Sana Saeed, Mukti Mohan, RJ Mantra will battle it out to be in the top 10 contestants of Jhalak.

Ameesha Patel has begun preparing for her maiden production venture, Desi Magic. She has roped in designer Manish Malhotra to work on the costumes.



The actress essays a double role — that of a sweet Punjabi girl and a spoilt rich brat from Budapest. These days, both Ameesha and Manish are busy brainstorming over her characters' look.

Says Ameesha, "Post Cannes, Manish and I are taking a step forward. I feel he can do justice to both my characters. When I offered him the opportunity, he felt that it would be challenging to design two contrasting looks. We are going to finalise the costumes soon, as our schedule is expected to start in a few weeks."
