Manasi Parekh Gohil don't want to limit herself on TV

Manasi Parekh Gohil don't want to limit herself on TV

Manasi Parekh Gohil in getting a new lid with his musical output and more in a chat with TOI

Decoding showbiz equation seems to have taken the actor and singer Manasi Parekh Gohil to exploring new frontiers. Manasi, is seen multitasking in life, to occupy the space with its numerous batches advertising advertising, taking as example an anchor and be equally committed to their efforts as the game plays Nachiyo Bahut Gopal. In a chat with TOI, Manasi talks about his latest creative outlet (as she is dating her single sung along with Jahnvi Srimankar), the propensity to take risks in entertainment and much more. Excerpts from the interview:

His game Maru Gayu Piyu Rangoon that has so much appreciation. What made you change focus to sing?
I've been leaning towards music and wanted to get something concrete since winning the reality show Star Ya Rockstar music. In fact, it had gotten so many offers as an actor-singer to publish the series, but I wanted to do something that will give me more creative satisfaction.

Is there a risk involved in launching itself an independent musician and singer?
As an artist who does not take risks. Risks allow you to grow. The independent music scene in India is very promising now. So I thought this is the time to get one. An album would not have been economically viable at this juncture. So Jhanvi and I was the only ourselves. What is encouraging is today the young in India are exposed to world music and there is a large audience in India, looking for something more than the music of Bollywood. A lot of new ground is being created as a result.

In recent times, we see that multitasking. You made her debut as a theater director and have been spotted in many TVC too.

I just do not want to limit myself to a particular genre on television. This made me think about doing something more than usual. I have not departed from the main occupation. All my activities are interrelated. I branched right to entertainment related fields. Therefore, I am doing commercials, directing theater and started producing plays too apart from acting in shows. I have a show in a row. I've always been curious to try my hand at several things.

As a singer you think fusion music found sponsorship in India?
Experimentation and work interests me melt. So I took Saawariya, Thumri sung my late Nirmala Devi (Govinda's mother) and reworked with the infusion of electronics. The fusion of Indian classical music with a mix of western notes always inspired me. In today's world, where almost everyone is exposed to the merger - like fusion food, many languages, including spoken English is a fusion of English and Hindi - Hinglish. So this makes it easy for independent musicians who aspire to create their own space in the hearts of music lovers.

Karisma Kapoor may return to the small screen

Karisma Kapoor, who has worked in a fiction show on TV and even judged reality shows, says if she will find anything interesting, she may return to the small screen.

"Maybe I will do TV again. I like to pick and choose what I do. So maybe I will, if something interesting comes up," Karisma said here after a promotional event for a new beverage - Rasna Ju-C.

The 38-year-old actress made her TV debut in 2003 with ‘Karishma - The Miracles of Destiny’, and then judged reality shows like ‘Nach Baliye 4’ and ‘Aaja Mahi Vay’.

After reigning over the Hindi film industry for over a decade with hits like ‘Judwaa’, ‘Hero No. 1’, ‘Biwi No.1’, ‘Raja Hindustani’ and ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, she quit showbiz in 2003 post her marriage with Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapur.

Last year, she made her comeback with ‘Dangerous Ishhq’. Now she will be seen in ‘Bombay Talkies’, releasing May 3.

Talking about ‘Bombay Talkies’ and 100 years of Indian cinema, she said: "I think the entire film fraternity wanted to be a part of the 100 years of cinema, and I think it`s great that all the actors took out time to be a part of it. Because we all love cinema and acting."

She added that "it`s a great way to celebrate the 100 years" by giving something back to the audience "for appreciating all of us for so long".

The actress also mentioned that she enjoys looking back at roles she has done. "It`s great. I enjoy them. The stars come from down of the ladder to reach the top, but when you are there, you think where do you go from there.

"It was a great learning experience. Working really hard and doing four shifts a day," she said and pointed out that today`s actors enjoy a very different life than that.

"But I think I also enjoyed the whole experience," she added.

Karisma, a mother of two kids - Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor - says now her priorities are her children.

"It`s all about your priorities. And my priorities will always be my kids."

For new moms, she advised: "Don`t worry, be stress free and you are a great mom."

Actress Deepshikha, who is set to play evil Bavanderpari in "Balveer", says she enjoys fantasy-based entertainment

Actress Deepshikha, who is set to play evil Bavanderpari in "Balveer", says she enjoys fantasy-based entertainment and that she is sure "it is going to be a lot of fun".

"I love fantasy-based television shows and I'm really looking forward to begin shooting for 'Balveer'. Being a part of the magical Pari-Lok is surely going to be a lot of fun," Deepshikha said in a statement.

Her character Bavanderpari is considered very powerful. She possesses the power of the wind and no power can destroy her as she creates a shield of wind which prevents any kind of magic from getting anywhere close to her.

Her character enters when some of the good ‘paris' accidentally open a room in which she has been kept captive since ages. After she manages to escape from it, she learns of Balveer's existence and his powers and decides to fight him.

Deepshikha's look as Bavanderpari is very different - with long robes, and a heavy head gear.

"My look and attire have a lot of detailing and creativity into it. I'm really thrilled to be a part of the cast for ‘Balveer'," she added.

Lot of Dance Tv Shows in the coming months In Indian Television

Lot of Dance Tv Shows in the coming months In Indian Television

"Dance India Dance - Super Moms", " Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" and "India's Dancing Superstar" - the Indian small screen seems to be bracing for a lot of dancing in the coming months.

To some, it may appear to be an "overdose" of glitzy dance reality shows, but many hail the trend, saying such dance shows not only encourage talent but enhance the entertainment quotient on the small screen.

Celebrity couple dance show "Nach Baliye" and the subsequent " Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati" wrapped up just recently on Star Plus, and the channel's new show - "India's Dancing Superstar" (IDS) is already on air.

Dance overdose?

"Audiences are liking it and that's why there is one more dance show (every now and then)," reasons choreographer Geeta Kapur, who is a judge on IDS along with Ashley Lobo and actor Riteish Deshmukh. She has earlier judged shows like " Dance India Dance", "DID L'il Masters", "DID Doubles" and "Dance Ke Superkids".

In the recent past, shows like "Dance India Dance", " Just Dance", "India's Got Talent", "Dancing Queen", "Dance Premier League", "Chak Dhoom Dhoom" and "Nachle Ve", have come, gone, shut and even returned. Many have even seen the association of Bollywood celebrities like Shilpa Shetty, Karan Johar, Hrithik Roshan, Farah Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar and Malaika Arora Khan.

But the pioneering dance reality show in India was "Boogie Woogie", which went on air in 1995 and continued for 15 years.

Naved Jafri, who, along with his brother Javed and Ravi Behl, formed the team for the trendsetting show, rues how dance reality shows are now the "same thing over and over again", with focus on "business".

"People are now concentrating on big sets. We rarely see innovation. In 'Boogie Woogie', we used to keep family values intact and we treated our contestants as our guests. Now, it's all a big business," Jafri told IANS.

He said the popularity of such dance shows is inevitable, but it's important to make them with a "heart".

"In our country, every house has a singer, a dancer and an artist. It's just that they didn't have adequate platforms earlier. Now they are getting that through not just TV, but also the internet," said Naved, who revealed that plans to get "Boogie Woogie" back are underway.

"Boogie Woogie", throughout its record run, had it all - an edition for kids, moms, fathers, groups and couples," Naved said, adding that a real show is one that "gives a chance to people who don't get a chance".

Reality shows at large, have turned out to be fruitful platforms for talent across the nation's length and breadth, making stars out of common men, women and children. Singing shows and talent shows have given the entertainment industry a lot of talented performers in the recent past.

Even as dance shows continue to blaze a trail season after season, choreographer Ashley Lobo, who is making his debut as a judge on TV with IDS, pointed out the brighter aspect.

"One can see it as an overdose or one can see it as what you're getting out of it. On the face of it, it could look like an overdose, but if one looks closely, each one is different and highlights different aspects," Lobo told IANS.

In a way, he is right - if IDS gives a chance to aspirants of all age groups and those specialising in any style of dance, "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" brings a range of celebrities on the dance floor for a neck-to-neck competition, while "Dance India Dance - Super Moms" is a unique platform for mothers who are aspiring dancers.

Bigg Boss Kannada Day 32 Stills and Highlights

Bigg Boss Kannada Day 32 Stills and Highlights

Rajesh, The Special Guest of Bigg Boss house Kannada, The patients in the house were asked to make funny stage appearance under the leadership of Vijay Raghavendra and his medical team. Narendra Babu Sharma started the proceedings by singing a devotional song.

The overnight mental drama continued on the day 31 at Bigg Boss house. The boss made the show more entertaining by organising a special program and by asking inmates to do hilarious acts.

For performing with full energy, the boss decided to compliment them by asking the housemates to celebrate the first anniversary of the mental asylum, Surgery Burgery Hospital.

The boss gave specific guidelines to doctors as well as patients.

Before starting the function, Bigg Boss surprised by bringing in a special guest. Well, it was none other than Jungle Jackie Rajesh of Halli Haida Pyatege Bandha fame. It has to be noted that the show organisers had earlier approached him to be one of the contestants in the house. But due to some reasons it did not materialise then. The inmates grandly welcomed him but some of the housemates acts and dress code created confusion in his mind as he returned from a short treatment for being mentally ill recently.

Dr Vishnuvardhan's famous song 'Adavi deviya, kadujangala...' perfectly suited for his welcome track. Rajesh managed to recognise some of the personalities in the house.

Bigg Boss Kannada - Shweta Pandit and Thilak get cosy on day 10, takes her to rest room

Bigg Boss Kannada - Shweta Pandit and Thilak get cosy on day 10, takes her to rest room

The previous day's fun continued on the 10th day at the Bigg Boss with girls being treated royally by the men inside house. It is only by the end of the day, the boss gave relief to the boys by providing them some entertainment in the form of dance performances by the female participants.

Shweta Pandit, who wanted to limit her relationship with Thilak after other females advised her, did not take it seriously, as she was taken by Thilak to rest room. The exciting part was when she kept her foot on Thilak's foot, locked his shoulders with her arms and walked towards sink to wash her hands. And Thilak almost hugged her to stop her from keeping her legs on floor

As the girls were ordered not to step down from their beds until they have the breakfast, boys were forced to prepare it and serve them at the earliest. The females brushed teeth and had coffee-breakfast on their sleeping place itself. Girls' Advise to Shweta Pandit... Shweta Pandit and Thilak's growing relationship seems to be a worrying factor for other females in the house as many suggested her not to mingle too much with the Ganda Hendathi actor.

They were telling her that Thilak does not appear to be serious in the relationship. So, cut off the bonding and be normal with him. The actress agreed and also disagreed at parts. Sanjjanna on Thilak Sanjjanna, who was fuming against Thilak a few days ago, was seen commenting that the actor is a big flirt. She said, "I will have to commit suicide if I start loving him as he likes each and every girl that he comes across.

" Chandrika's secret task Chandrika succeeded in a couple of her secret tasks assigned by the Bigg Boss. She successfully made Arun Sagar wait outside the toilet rooms and give the girls towels to dry their face and hands, she made Vijay Raghavendra to open and close the doors where ever she went and convinced Swami to at least put a saree like a shawl on his shoulders.

Bigg Boss Kannada, Stills from Day 31 - Highlights

Bigg Boss Kannada, Stills from Day 31 - Highlights

The madness from the day 30 continued on the 31st day too at the Bigg Boss Kannada house. The funny acts of inmates entertained and made audience to stay tuned to the show on Wednesday (April 24).

Indeed, the house was mental asylum in the last two days. Most of the housemates were cheered up and completely took part in the task. Yet again, it was Arun Sagar, Narendra Babu Sharma and Nurse Jayalakshmi, who took the honours of the day. Not to forget, Anushree, Vijay Raghavendra and others also tried their best to break the funny bones of the audience.

On one occasion, Anushree called Narendra Babu Sharma as Hanuman and the former tried to act like a monkey god. She also called Nurse Jayalakshmi with the name Shurpanaki, the demon sister of Raavana.

Apart from these, watching Arun Sagar sporting briefs on his trousers and prancing around like superman also brought laughter on audience face. Arun Sagar, like a mental patient, gave hard times to the hospital authorities which is headed by Vijay Raghavendra. Jumping into the swimming pool and throwing things away bothered a lot to the doctors and other workers of Surgery Burgery hospital!

Inmates tried to lock Nurse Jayalakshmi inside the bathroom but she escaped from it and ran towards safe place. It was one of the funniest scene of the day.

Narendra Sharma and Nurse Jayalakshmi have become a hit pair in the house. Every moves that they do evoke a lot fun. Well, on day 31st, as per the boss' guidelines, Nurse was supposed to bathe Narendra Sharma but he escaped from her and locked himself inside a room.

The show will be replacing ‘Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati’ on the channel taking over the Saturday and Sunday 9 pm slot.

‘India’s Dancing Superstar’ is a co-production between BBC Worldwide India and Trompe d'oeil Productions.

It aims to provide a platform to the most passionate and talented dancers in India. The show’s USP is that it has no barrier of age, dance form or style.

“The participants will be seen showcasing some of the most innovative and entertaining dance styles through their acts. A mix of kids , teenagers, young adults, married couples and even grandparents, the contestants can perform as individuals, pairs or in groups – everyone competes on the same platform to win the coveted title of India’s Dancing Superstar,” the channel said.

India’s Dancing Superstar has potential to scare the viewers, says choreographer Geeta Kapur

Dance reality show, India’s Dancing Superstar (IDS), has potential to scare the viewers, says choreographer Geeta Kapur, who will judge the show along with fellow choreographer Ashley Lobo and actor Riteish Deshmukh.

“India’s Dancing Superstar has more potential to scare the audience in terms of passing a judgement because you will see stuff which is unbelievable,” says Geeta. There is no age bar and the dance reality show will witness performances by kids, teenagers, young adults, married couples and even grandparents when it goes on air this weekend on Star Plus. Geeta earlier judged three seasons of hit dance reality show, Dance India Dance (DID). She also judged DID Doubles, DID Li’l Masters (season 1 and 2) and Dance Ke Superkids later. But she finds India’s Dancing Superstar more difficult to judge than other shows.

“DID was a different format altogether. It’s more difficult with this one (IDS) because you’ll have to judge people of all age groups,” she says.

It takes a lot of mental strength to survive in an insecure field like the glamour industry is what actress Ishita Dutta feels as she is about to make her debut on the small screen with her show “Ek Ghar Banaunga” to be produced by Raakesh Paswan.

Sister of Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta, Ishita will be seen essaying the lead role on her new show. She is well aware of the reach of the small screen and its popularity amongst the viewers therefore she wisely decided to plan her debut with the television show unlike that of her sister who made her debut with a big screen movie.

Ishita knows that once she finds success with her small screen shows, big screen offers are bound to come searching for her. As her sister Tanushree has a vast experience of working in movies she has been getting a lot of advice as far as her acting career is concerned on the home front itself.
